kowa brimaine

sorceress of singularity

Name: Kowa Brimaine
Age: 35
Height: 5'1"
Nameday: 9th Sun of the First Astral Moon
Race: Miqo'te (Keeper of the Moon)
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Relationship Status: Courtship
Birthplace: The Brume, Ishgard
Occupation: Chirurgeon, Astrologian, Aetherologist
Notable Features: Voluminous knee-length Afrotextured curls; white levin-scars gashed across her hands, forearms, and face.

Born in the Brume, Kowa roamed its streets near-feral before she was lured out by empty promises in her late teens. She did not resurface for turns, half mad and aetherially afflicted. Only Dragonsong enlistment for want of work provided literacy and medical training beneath Horde-darkened skies. Her fateful saving of a House Durendaire dragoon near the end of the war begot a grateful offer of Observatorium training. This opportunity blossomed into a lifelong devotion to the stars, and a reformation into the lady that she never was.Now in her thirties with the remnants of her heretical past destroyed, Kowa has somewhat settled into a calmer life. Her suns are spent on various pursuits, among them studying the heavens and instructing handpicked students in healing or aetherial manipulation. She offers freelance medical services, is an amateur inventor of esoteric magical items, enjoys libraries, gardens, and fancy teas, and strides into danger if knowledge worth peril lurks beyond.Kowa is taciturn, reserved, and cautious, one to observe a situation before she acts. Those in her favor see a warmer personality, manifesting as fussing, copious home cooking, and aid. Those that cross her endure the brunt of the eldritch cosmos she venerates, writhing in wait.

of choice: the found family

Scarcity begets aggression. After an isolated life, the defense of those who cherish her is the Miqo'te's north star; her fury is roused no swifter than at a threat to one of these souls. She spends ample time in their households, remains on call to heal their wounds, and guides their walk down fate's paths together.

of adoption: the lion tribe of coerthas

On the northern coast between the Farreach and Xelphatol sits the pridelands, surrounded by rich forests in a mountain valley. Once engaged to a Tia of their tribe, Kowa was embraced by a matriarch whose persistent love outlasted the relationship and deemed her a daughter. Though this bond, she found respite and welcome among the Sisters' favored people.

of blood: the kiraska of abalathia's spine

The Kiraska originated north of Xelphatol near the freezing coast of the Bloodbrine Sea, and are a branch of the larger Usinha tribe comprised of storytellers, fishers, and dreamers. Discovering her true origins is a bittersweet yet sacred experience for Kowa, though marred by the mystery of how her mother left the displaced tribe in the Twelveswood to die a terrible Ishgardian death.

urchins in the cold
Those who grew up in the Brume may remember the prowling, non-verbal catte. Others who once starved beneath the Forgotten Knight, hold a healthy distrust of nobles, and carry ample cynicism about the Brume's current rehabilitation will find a ready, if tired ear.
the snapped leash
While the subject requires trust that a stranger will not be granted, someone who has suffered beneath the heel of others or had power forced upon them (in particular, those given blood to drink) may eventually have kinship with Kowa.
wyrmfire
Kowa’s years as a field medic during the Dragonsong era leaves ample space for wartime veterans: fellow chirurgeons, patients, or combatants who may have encountered this reserved, competent woman. Those from that time will be surprised at the sound of her voice, as in memory she did not speak.
the never-dragoon
The self-made lady would not be caught dead in armor, yet the power of the dragon star is painfully familiar. Though lacking lance or soulstone, she harnesses its light through unique foci and her first experiments have yielded intriguing results.
three in the morning
Crime is nebulous in an unjust society, and while the Keeper spurns sadism for sadism's sake she has sympathy for those clawing their way to survival. One may have met her over ten turns ago while she was working under orders, or far more recently by her alias in search of controlled reagents.
satiate the heavens
While she does not consider herself an adventurer, her field medic experience and a slew of dangerous encounters have given her a cool head under pressure. Stability is also, perhaps, slightly boring? Interesting mysteries, bloodshed for fun causes, travel, adventure: a fatereading sawbones might fit well on a crew. She's especially fond of pirates.
heal thyself
Kowa has difficulty turning away patients in need, and she is well practiced in secrecy about sensitive matters. Those wanting a discreet healer will find themselves in good company, provided they have not wound up on her doorstep out of cruelty to the undeserving.
walking the paths
Fate is probability, a hydra of paths and possibilities that shift with mortal footfalls. A desperate situation that could be swayed by her gaze into the expanse may tempt her to help those who ask.
the chorus that writhes
Veneration, servitude, sacrifice, adoration, prostration, possession, manipulation, mutualism. The eldritch bond between the sorceress and space has been called many names; all are, to varying degrees, true. To be an empty thing imbued with - and strong enough to carry - the unknowable is a calling that precious few can empathize with. Few, but not none.

I roleplay in game and over Discord. Esen Dazkar is my other character.I am looking for proactive roleplay partners with strong writing for long-term plots. While I am busy IRL, I maintain an active roleplay schedule and write best with people who take initiative. I vastly prefer characters who already have full and interesting lives - ambitions, conflicts, established social circles! If you tend to be passive and need others to guide your roleplay, we are not a good fit. Please be over (ideally well over) the age of 21.I am a queer WOC, a reality that deeply informs my writing. You do not need to be queer or a person of color to engage with me, but be aware that themes exploring both are deeply prevalent in my characters. We should not write together if that bothers you.I feel the most invested in roleplay with partners I get to know well! I adore sharing inspiration posts and music, discussing character meta, taking screenshots, and vibing.Violence, horror, psychological themes, fluff, adventure, combat, and slice of life are all welcome. Darker content will only be explored with extensive communication about boundaries and consent. I will not roleplay sexual assault or abuse.I am not looking to connect with heavily sheltered characters or with characters who do not understand basic graces. Being socially awkward or abrupt is fine, but I have no desire to write "teach my character about how the world works" storylines.Kowa gets along better with seasoned people rather than very young fresh out of the gate types. Mid to late 20s, 30s, and 40+ muses are all preferred.I am lore-bending friendly within reason! No isekai outside of FFXIV's canonical settings and no Ascians, please.Kowa is clairvoyant, but I do not roleplay her Sight without prior communication and consent from you.I have a very eldritch staring-into-the-abyss interpretation of astromancy, and some of Kowa's skillset veers off the beaten path of the Ishgardian and Sharlayan schools. I am happy to discuss! Please have clear IC/OOC separation and understanding of boundaries.
